My Developer PC Software List

Software Jul 4, 2021
I needed to reinstall my Windows PC recently. And a first thing to do after is to get all the needed software on it. Over the years I get used to some applications that I can not live without. I also try to keep the list to absolute minimum. Less installed software benefits security, space and speed.

I decided to share that list as there could be some things that you don't know. Keep in mind I have a dual boot system: Windows 10 + Ubuntu 21.04 (at the moment). This list is for Microsoft system. I use exactly the same software on Linux if applicable. If not then, well this is why I need that other system :)

Bare Essentials

  • Mozilla Firefox (I use it on all devices with sync)
  • Nextcloud Client
  • VLC
  • TotalCommander

  • git (on Windows you need to install it manualy)
  • Fork (Git Client)
  • Unreal Engine 4/5
  • Unity Hub
  • VSCode

  • DaVinci Resolve
  • HandBrake (Resolve don't like some video codecs, especialy from SQ12 camera)
  • i1Studio (just for initial monitors calibration)
  • Blender
  • GIMP
  • NVIDIA Canvas (the future of concepting)

Office and Communication

  • Signal, Slack, Discord, Messanger (the worst)
  • CherryTree (link) (my main note taking app)
  • LibreOffice
  • Foxit PDF Reader (hint: be careful while installing there are some crap software selected by default)
  • Calibre (link)
  • NVIDIA Broadcast (a must have for video calls)
  • OBS (for screen recording)

Firefox Extensions

Those are setup once and then each new install just get them using Sync.

  • Firefox Multi-Account Containers (a must have for private/business logins in a single browser)
  • uBlock Origin
  • DuckDuckGo Privacy
  • Facebook Container
  • WAVE Evaluation Tool (checker for web development)
